THE PROBLEM
THE PROBLEM
"Until society's attitude changes, nothing changes."
"Until society's attitude changes, nothing changes."
Stoicism - by definition is the endurance of pain of hardship without the display of feelings and without complaint. This is the unspoken "rule of law" in the culture of Japan. In more common language: hide your feelings, don't expose your weakness, don't be a burden to others, don't stick out, don't make anyone else stick out, act as if you don't exist, don't share your problems with others and yes even to the far extreme it's better off you don't exist. This attitude is the pre-cursor to many of the isolation issues in Japan.
